KY 126 in Caldwell County
Crews in Caldwell County and Lyon County will continue working today to clear snow-covered roads that have been hampered by bitterly cold temperatures.
Princeton Public Works Director David Sullenger says the main streets in the city limits look good, however, side streets and alleyways are still snow-covered.
After plowing and spreading salt city-wide on Monday, he says work crews will remain in a holding pattern until the temperature and sunshine can help melt the ice and snow. However, he says today’s wind chill forecast may delay that process.
Sullenger asks for the public’s patience as conditions become favorable to finish clearing snow off of Princeton’s streets.
Meanwhile, Caldwell County Road Department Supervisor David Waldrum says crews are going to be out today plowing and salting in hopes that the temperature and sun will give them a little help.
In Lyon County, Sheriff Brent White reports Interstate 24, Interstate 69, US 62 and US 641 are in pretty good shape this morning, however, secondary state routes such as KY 93, KY 810, KY 819, KY 1055, KY 1271, KY 1272, and KY 3305 are mostly still snow packed and remain slick and hazardous.
Sheriff White indicates that their county roads are improving but the snow that fell late Monday afternoon covered many of them again after they were cleared Monday morning.
He says the clear sky and northern frigid air today will cause the temperature and wind chill to remain bitterly cold, and it is unlikely the road conditions will see a lot of improvement. However, he adds that it will allow county, city and state road crews to continue to clear the snow from roads without additional precipitation.
He says bridges and overpasses remain slick so drivers need to buckle up, slow down, keep both hands on the wheel, use their brakes sparingly, and keep vehicles between the ditches.
