Robert L. Cook, a cherished soul whose life journey began on February 17th, 1951 in Princeton, Kentucky, concluded his earthly chapter on January 13th, 2024, in Kuttawa, Kentucky, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and kindness.
Robert was the beloved husband of Sharon McGowan Cook, with whom he shared thirty-two years of devoted marriage. He was a guiding light in the life of his daughter, Sarah (Josh Costello) Cook, who reside in Eddyville. His warmth and wisdom will be missed by his sisters, Rose Street and Brenda Manning, both of Hopkinsville; his brothers, Ronnie Spry of Augusta, Georgia, and Mitchell Maxie of Texas; and his uncle and father figure, L.T. Maxie. His memory will be cherished by several nieces and nephews who looked up to him. Robert’s journey preceded that of his parents, Paul Cook and Flora Maxie Gray; his sister, Glenda Malone; his brother, Elvis Bumphus; and his grandparents, Sarah Maxie and Enoch O’hara.
A proud graduate of Caldwell County High School’s class of 1969, Robert furthered his education by earning an Associate’s Degree in grafting from Western Kentucky Vocational College. His dedication to his craft was evident throughout his 43-year tenure as a Chemical Operator at West Lake in Calvert City, where his work ethic and camaraderie were unparalleled.
Robert’s faith was the cornerstone of his existence. Raised in Shepherd Street Baptist Church, where he took the significant step of baptism, he continued to serve the Lord at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Paducah, KY as a gifted musician. His spiritual devotion was mirrored in his daily life, where he embodied the principles of love, faith, and kindness he so fervently believed in.
His interests were as rich and varied as the life he led. Whether he was tending to his yard, creating art, or getting lost in the worlds of Jazz music and National Geographic, Robert did so with passion and enthusiasm. He was an avid reader, particularly of war stories, which spoke to his contemplative nature. A martial arts enthusiast, he also found tranquility in the care of his exotic fish tanks, creating serene underwater landscapes.
