Gas prices in west central Kentucky continued to fall this week, down to an average $2.76 per gallon.

That’s per the AAA East Central Gas Price Report, which noted petroleum was $2.81 per gallon a week ago, and $3.00 a gallon this time last year.

Around the News Edge listening area:
For Caldwell County, it’s $2.73 in Princeton;

For Crittenden County, it’s $2.75 in Marion;
For Hopkins County, it’s between $2.53 and $2.55 in Hanson and Madisonville;

Other notable areas of unleaded self-serve gasoline include $2.67 for Owensboro, $2.71 for Elizabethtown, $2.75 in Louisville, $2.81 in Paducah and $2.83 in Bowling Green.

The national average for a gallon of gas: steady at $3.07. Lower oil costs and modest growth in gasoline demand are key drivers of the price, and the current national average is the same as a month ago, and 23 cents less than this time last year.

Following the close of last Wednesday’s formal trading, West Texas Intermediate stock fell 87 cents to $71.37, and oil prices continue to ease around demand. Rising stocks, officials say, could signal that demand is softening, helping push prices down as winter arrives and the nation settles in after the travel season.
