Kentucky State Police are investigating a UTV crash that claimed the life of a teenager in Caldwell County Friday night.
According to spokesman Trooper Ridge Porter, Post 2 in Madisonville was contacted shortly before 9:00 pm to investigate a fatal collision on Cannon Road.
He says a preliminary investigation revealed that a 17-year old juvenile was driving a UTV southbound on Cannon Road when, for unknown reasons, the UTV dropped off the right shoulder of the road. As the UTV reentered the road, the juvenile lost control, causing it to overturn.
Trooper Porter says the teen died while en route to the Caldwell County hospital.
State police have not released the name of the teenager. Family members have identified the victim on social media as Brooke Phelps.
The investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing.
