A home in Princeton was severely damaged in a fire Sunday afternoon.
Princeton firefighters responded to a report of a home engulfed in flames at the corner of Mechanic and Garrett streets around 2:45 pm.
Assistant Fire Chief Tim Cook tells WPKY’s News Edge when firefighters arrived, the house was already vented and fire was coming out three sides of the home. He says a neighbor who lived down the street saw the home on fire and ran to open a door to let a dog out.
Cook says the rental home is occupied by two people who left an electric fireplace on when they left the residence around 10:00 Sunday morning. He said the fireplace was in the room where the fire originated which caused severe damage to the house.
According to Cook, approximately a dozen firefighters responded to the scene with three fire trucks. He says the Fredonia Volunteer Fire Department assisted and was on stand-by while Princeton firefighters battled the fire.
There were no injuries reported.
Firefighters were on the scene for about 2.5 hours.
