Brooke Phelps, 17, of Caldwell County

Brooke Erin Phelps, passed away at the tender age of 17, on January 19, 2024, in Caldwell County, Kentucky. Born on August 15, 2006, in Dothan, Alabama, Brooke’s life was a testament to the power of kindness and the strength of the spirit of God and her love for Jesus Christ.

She is survived by loving parents, Curt and Cara Mitchell Phelps. Her radiant smile and infectious laughter were a joy to all who knew her. Brooke’s love for her family was evident, and she was a beloved sister to Taylor Phelps of Princeton and Layne Peters of Dothan, AL and step-sisters, Adrianne (Cody) Travis of Marion and Leigha McMullen of Cincinnati, OH; paternal grandfather, Lanier Cook of Dothan, AL; and beloved cousin, Madyson McLain.

She was preceded in death by her biological father, Christopher McLain; her maternal grandparents, James and Suzanne Hayes Mitchell; her paternal grandmother, Karen Cook, and her paternal grandparents, Webster and Debbie McLain.

Brooke worked at Tin Roof and Akridge but her dedication to service shone brightly through her ministry to Bright Life Farm and various nursing facilities including serving as a Junior Volunteer at Princeton Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was also an active volunteer at Caldwell County Animal Shelter and a member of Southside Baptist Church.

An adventurous spirit, Brooke relished the great outdoors. She found peace and exhilaration in riding horses and ATVs, bass fishing and hunting deer, rabbit and turkey. An artist at heart, Brooke expressed her creativity through painting, capturing the beauty of the world as she saw it.

Brooke’s friends were her extended family, and she cherished the moments spent in their company. Her first service dog, Annie, and later Esther, were not just pets but her loyal companions, sharing in her journey and bringing comfort and joy to her days.

Brooke’s presence was characterized by love, kindness, compassion and an unwavering faith. These attributes were the cornerstones of her life, guiding her actions and leaving a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.

As we bid farewell to Brooke Erin Phelps, we celebrate a life that, though brief, was lived with immense love and purpose. Her legacy will continue to inspire us to approach each day with kindness, to nurture our faith, and to cherish the bonds of family and friendship. Brooke’s memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her, a reminder of the beauty and grace that can be found in each of us.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Morgan’s Funeral Home and from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Southside Baptist Church Life Center.

A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Southside Baptist Church Life Center with Bro. Clint McCoy, Bro. Presley Lamm and Bro. Josh Drake officiating. Burial will follow in Hill Cemetery in Caldwell County.
