Russell Kingston, 92, of Paducah

Russell Kingston, age 92, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2024, in Paducah, Kentucky. Born to John Simeon Kingston and Gola McKinney Kingston on December 21, 1931, in Kuttawa, Russell’s life was a testament to the endurance and spirit of his generation.

A proud veteran, Russell served his country in the United States Army 1st Cavalry during the Korean War. His bravery was unmistakable, as he endured the hardships of being a Prisoner Of War for 33 arduous months. He was among the first Americans to be captured and emerged as one of the last to be released in 1953. This harrowing experience shaped a man who was already strong into one of remarkable character and fortitude. For his service and sacrifice, Russell was awarded two Purple Hearts as well as numerous other medals.

Upon returning home, Russell found his professional calling with Ashland Oil, where he dedicated 38 years as a tankerman. His hard work and commitment to the job did not go unnoticed, and he retired with respect and admiration from his colleagues.

Russell was blessed with a loving family, who will remember him dearly for his selflessness and adventurous soul. He leaves behind, to carry on his legacy, his loving children, Russell Wade Kingston of Paducah, Wilma Smith (Jimmy) of Murray, and Perry Quinn Kingston of Kuttawa; his sister, Edna Martin of Kuttawa; brother, Billy Kingston of Kuttawa; and his adoring grandchildren: John Russell Kingston, Justin Kingston, and Pamela Kirk; five great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his cherished wife of 67 years, Mary Lou Hammons Kingston, his parents, and four sisters, Holly Jane Lutes, Virginia Hope, Lena Mae Guess, Margie Forsythe; five brothers, J.B. Kingston, Tony Kingston, Eddie Kingston, Johnny Kingston, and Kenny Kingston.

An avid hunter, Russell found great joy in the serenity of nature and the thrill of the chase. He loved traveling his beloved country, gathering stories and experiences to share with all who knew him. Russell was a Christian who grew up attending Macedonia Baptist Church.

Per Mr. Kingston’s instructions, graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Macedonia Cemetery in Lyon County on Monday, January 29, 2024, with military honors and Bro. John Hagan officiating. Lakeland Funeral Home of Eddyville is in charge of arrangements.
