The Special Olympics regional basketball tournament was held last Saturday in Bowling Green.
Caldwell County sent two teams to the tournament in hopes of qualifying for the state contest to be held in March. Caldwell County Special Olympics Coordinator Vickie Purcell reports that one team was successful in obtaining that goal.
click to download audioPurcell added that the second team did not qualify but they are able to attend and compete in a skills competition.
The state tournament will be held in Louisville and Purcell explained the schedule for the weekend.
click to download audioThe players and cheerleaders will be traveling to compete in their individual contest but there is also a big social event held each year during the tournament. Purcell shared that one of the highlights of the year for the local group is the dance.

Purcell wants to give a big thank you to Southside Baptist Church for providing a bus and Lydell Hudson for driving them for their competitions this year including the state contest.
