CCPS Board Approves 2024-25 Calendar, Selects Asbestos Abatement Project Manager

During Tuesday night’s meeting, the Caldwell County school board approved the 2024-2025 school calendar and selected a project manager for the asbestos abatement from the Butler Annex building.

The approved school calendar sets the first day of school for students on August 14th, with fall break scheduled from October 7-11. Christmas break will be from December 23 through January 3, 2025, spring break is scheduled from March 31 through April 4, and the last day of school for students is May 22.

In other action, Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Roach reported that two bids were received for the asbestos abatement of the Butler Annex building. After evaluating the bids using a scoring system and conducting interviews with the two companies, he recommended selecting Linebach-Funkhouser, Inc.

A representative from the environmental consultant based in Louisville informed the board that a $500,000 grant would cover the expenses for asbestos removal, resulting in no cost to the district.

He summarized the lengthy asbestos removal process for the Butler Annex building, noting the extensive paperwork involved. Upon board approval, he indicated that the process could begin in a few months.

When questioned about potential air quality concerns, the representative stated that a contractor would be selected through a competitive process to meet federal regulations and would be required to implement containment measures.

In other matters, the board approved fuel vendors, tentative staffing allocations, and bus maintenance bids from Coleman Auto Parts/NAPA and Max Arnold and Sons, as suggested by Transportation Director Dustin Cash.
