Luther Russell Edwards, age 74, of Dawson Springs, KY passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Baptist Health Deaconess in Madisonville, KY. Mr. Edwards was born on June 19, 1949, in Madisonville, KY to the late James Luther Edwards and Elmer Neveline Russell Edwards. Russell worked for eighteen years as an underground coal miner and was a member of the UMWA. He retired from the Western Kentucky Correctional Facility. He proudly served his country in the United States Army where he received numerous awards including two purple hearts when he served in the Vietnam War. Mr. Edwards was a member of the Dawson Springs First Baptist Church and was a 1967 graduate of Dawson Springs High School.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years ~ Diana Jackson Edwards of Dawson Springs, KY; a daughter ~ Melissa Poe of Dawson Springs, KY; two sons ~ Kevin Edwards of Dawson Springs, KY and James Russell Edwards and his wife, Tina, of Dawson Springs, KY; two sisters ~ Linda Killough and her husband, Greg, of Ohio and Kathy Todd of Dawson Springs, KY; five grandchildren ~ Taylor (Alyssa) Edwards, Raelee Poe, Robert Weaver, Tiffany (Lonnie) Rogers and Whitney Weaver; seven great-grandchildren ~ Amoni Edwards, Sonny Kurtz-Thorpe, Dash Edwards, Paisley Rogers, Hunter Rogers, Maci Latham and Peyton Willow Fox.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Sisters ~ Betty Jane Prow, Iva Lee Ison and Mary Ann McKinny; brothers ~ Ray Edwards, Mike Edwards and Bobby Joe Edwards.
Visitation for Luther Russell Edwards will be held Friday, February 23, 2024, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs, KY and on Saturday, February 24, 2024, from 12:00 noon until the 2:00 funeral hour at First Baptist Church in Dawson Springs, KY with Rev. Mike Jicka officiating. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery in Dawson Springs, KY.
Active Pallbearers will be: Phillip Bruce, Jason Edwards, Joe Edwards, Mikey Stevens, Jim Edwards, Lonnie Rogers, Jeff Edwards, Jason Brent and Ernie Aiken. Honorary Pallbearers will be Donald Stevens, Kevin Bruce, Jackie Jones and Robert Weaver.
