The Lyon County Recycling Center reopened Wednesday to the county’s residents.Lyon county officials have announced that the recycling center is currently only able to accept cardboard, paper, and aluminum cans from Lyon County residents at this time.
Furthermore, officials advised residents that the scrap metal area at the recycling center, which includes items such as washing machines and hot water heaters, remains open for disposal. They anticipate being able to accept electronics by the end of the week, once the concrete has settled a bit more.
According to officials, the county is still working on a long-term solution for plastics.
The Western Kentucky Correctional Complex has been providing recycling services to Caldwell, Crittenden, Livingston, Lyon, and Trigg counties for several years. However, at the end of January, county officials were notified from the prison farm that they would be permanently discontinuing their recycling program due to safety and other concerns.
