Mattie Samuel, 81, of Princeton

Mattie Lumural Slaughter Samuel, age 81, of Princeton, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at her home.

Mattie was born on March 18, 1942 in Davison, AL to the late John and Mattie Hill Slaughter. Mattie worked as a crossing guard for many years for the Chicago Police Department. She was a gifted seamstress and enjoyed cooking. In her spare time, Mattie volunteered at the nursing home. Mattie loved spending time and making memories with her grandchildren. Mattie enjoyed gardening and yard work. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Rocky Ridge Baptist Church in Cadiz, KY.

Survivors include her sons, Ventura (Holly) Samuel and Alexis Samuel; two daughters, Ashley Samuel (Cameron Hall) and Aliya (Megan) Samuel; two brothers, Tam Slaughter and Walker Slaughter; grandchildren, Cayden Hall, Capri Hall, Logan Gordon, and several other grandchildren; after the passing of her daughter, Shunta Seals, Mattie took in her children and raised them like her own, Majanice Seals and Maurice Seals, Jr; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews

In addition to her parents, Mattie is preceded in death by her husband, Willie “Booney” James Slaughter; daughter, Shunta Seals; two sons, Stacy Samuel and Willie James Samuel, Jr five sisters, Mammie Taylor, Gatath Slaughter, Mary Goldstein, Inelia Samuel and Etha Slaughter; four brothers, John, James Ray, Milton and Robert Slaughter.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Morgan’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
