Byron Black/Caldwell County Jail mugshot
A Princeton man charged in the January death of his wife has been indicted by the Caldwell County Grand Jury.
A true bill was returned on 42-year old Byron Black on charges of murder and abuse of a corpse that occurred, according to the indictment, between January 25 and January 27.
As previously reported by WPKY’s News Edge, Black is accused of fatally shooting Kelly Black in the back of the head. Her body was found by Princeton Police at a home on Center Street on Sunday, January 28th, during a welfare check. An Amber Alert was issued shortly thereafter when law enforcement could not locate the Black’s 5-year old daughter who was believed to be with her father, Byron Black.
During a preliminary hearing in Caldwell District Court on February 5th, Detective Jacob Stephens with Kentucky State Police testified that Kelly Black had flown into the Nashville, Tennessee airport on Thursday, January 25, with security video showing her and Byron Black getting into a vehicle.
When state police arrived on the scene on Sunday, Stephens stated that Kelly Black’s luggage was still inside the vehicle where detectives also found blood and a shell casing.
During the investigation, Princeton Police located Black’s pickup truck at a Princeton hotel. After obtaining a warrant Black was arrested and their 5-year old daughter was found safe. Police said they also found a handgun inside Byron Black’s pickup truck.
Black remains lodged in the Caldwell County Jail under a $1 million bond.
