Thomas Earl Hanks, age 78, of Calvert City, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024 at Riversbend Retirement Community in Kuttawa, KY.
Thomas was born on April 3, 1945 in Lyon County to the late Wilson and Dolly Litchfield Hanks. Thomas proudly served his country as a helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After leaving the armed forces, Thomas used his talent as a pilot working as a crop duster for Summitt Helicopter Company. Thomas enjoyed reading and watching UK Basketball. It brought him great joy to serve others and he could be found volunteering weekly at Marcella’s Kitchen in Benton. Thomas served as a deacon and attended Gilbertsville Baptist Church .
Survivors include his sister, Faye Hanks (Billy Fields) of Princeton; brother, Charles Hanks of Caldwell County stepson, Otis (Brenda) McCormick of Caldwell County; stepdaughter, Ydonna (Ed) Jewell of Dycusburg, KY; four step grandchildren, Amanda Jewell, Aaron Jewell, Brian (Brandy) McCormick and Otis McCormick, Jr.; four step great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Thomas is preceded in death by his wife, Frances Louise Vickery Hanks; sister, Linda Newson; brothers, James, Kenneth, Anthony and Gayle Hanks.
Visitation for Thomas Hanks will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Morgan’s Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 11:00 AM with Bro. Darrell Walker officiating.
Burial with military honors to follow at Rowland Cemetery in Caldwell County.
