The Princeton Electric Plant Board has been honored with the prestigious American Public Power Association’s Safety Award for exceptional safety practices. Officials with the local utility announced PEPB was recognized with a Diamond award in the category for utilities with 29,127 worker-hours of annual worker exposure.

Local officials reported that more than 160 utilities participated in the 2023 annual Safety Awards, with entries categorized based on the number of worker hours. The rankings were determined by the utilities’ incident-free records, safety programs, and overall safety culture in 2023. Officials said the incidence rate was calculated using the reported work-related injuries or illnesses and the number of worker hours in 2023, as outlined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

PEPB Operations Superintendent Matt Hoard expressed in a written statement that PEPB takes pride in its safety record. He emphasized that the award reflects the dedication and effort put into ensuring that all team members return safely to their families each day.

For over 65 years, the Safety Awards have been conducted annually. The American Public Power Association serves as the advocate for non-profit, community-owned utilities that provide power to 2,000 towns and cities across the nation.
