James Ausenbaugh Sr., 96, of Hopkinsville

James Russell Ausenbaugh, Sr., age 96, of Hopkinsville and formerly of Dawson Springs passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Bradford Heights Health and Rehab in Hopkinsville, KY. Mr. Ausenbaugh was born on October 12, 1927 in Caldwell County, KY to the late Bailey Ausenbaugh and Thelma Vickery Ausenbaugh. He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Hopkinsville and worked for many years as a butcher for the Department of Defense in Fort Campbell, KY. Mr. Ausenbaugh served his country during World War II in the United States Navy where he was awarded the Victory Medal. He was also a member of the Al E. Orten lodge and the American Legion.

He is survived by his son ~ James Russell “Jimbo” Ausenbaugh, Jr. and his wife, Jan, of Hopkinsville, KY; step-son ~ Gary (Mary) Grisham of Dawson Springs, KY; seven grandchildren ~ Jamie (Brandie) Ausenbaugh of Hopkinsville, KY, Jenny (Travis) Shown of Hopkinsville, KY, Todd (Abbiegail) Ausenbaugh of Hopkinsville, KY, Steven (Danielle) Morse of Louisville, KY, Brent (Kaylyn) Morse of Clay, KY, Scott (Portia) Davis of Murray, KY and Aaron (Tabatha) Davis of Murray, KY; great-grandchildren ~ Taylor Ausenbaugh, Tadd (Nia) Ausenbaugh, Torie Morse, Olivia Morse, Meagan Morse, Lyndsie Morse, Rachel (Easton) Delong, Brittney Davis, Grace Davis, Leah Davis, Drew Davis, Ayden Davis, Cade Ausenbaugh, Emily Shown and Lauren Shown; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Ausenbaugh is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife ~ Mary Agnes Rambo Ausenbaugh (departed 1/5/1994); his second wife ~ Maxine Gordon Grisham Ausenbaugh (departed 5/27/2023); daughters ~ Judy Morse and Mary Jo Davis; his brother ~ Bill Ausenbaugh; great-grandson ~ Jamos Morse and stillborn twins.

Visitation for Mr. James Russell Ausenbaugh, Sr., will be Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 12:00 -2:00 PM at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs, KY. Masonic Rites will be performed at 2:00 P.M. The Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. with Rev. Kathy Redden officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Dawson Springs, KY.

Active Pallbearers will be Mr. Ausenbaugh’s grandsons and his granddaughter will serve as Honorary Pallbearer.
