Two Men Charged After Shots Fired at Police During Dawson Springs Pursuit

Two men were arrested after an attempted traffic stop in Dawson Springs reportedly led to a pursuit with shots fired at police Thursday night.

Shortly after 11:30 pm, according to Kentucky State Police, a trooper attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation but the driver failed to stop and a pursuit ensued through Dawson Springs, with shots fired at the trooper from the vehicle during the chase.

During the investigation, police located and arrested the driver of the vehicle 33-year old Kristopher Barker of Hiram, Georgia and 32-year old Tanner Southerland from Dawson Springs.

Police said 27-year old Kirsten Bean of Dawson Springs was also taken into custody on multiple outstanding Hopkins County warrants for unrelated charges.

Barker was charged with conspiracy to attempted murder of a police officer, fleeing or evading police, reckless driving and no taillights.

Southland was charged with attempted murder of a police officer.

Bean was charged on the warrants for failure to appear on multiple trafficking marijuana and trafficking controlled substances offenses, plus wanton endangerment, disorderly conduct and other offenses.  She was also charged on another warrant with possession of meth, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia and some misdemeanor offenses.

Barker, Southerland, and Bean were lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center.

The Dawson Springs and Madisonville Police Departments assisted Kentucky State Police with the investigation.
