The remains of a missing Alabama man were found during a ground search in Caldwell County Saturday afternoon.

According to Caldwell County Sheriff Don Weedman, the remains of 83-year old Roy Jackson, of Florence, were found a distance away from the Trusty Cemetery where his vehicle was located abandoned. The remains were reportedly located in some underbrush, bordering a field near a stream, and were identified by Jackson’s distinctive physical features.

The Caldwell Coroner’s Office has requested an autopsy to determine the cause of death, but Sheriff Weedman has stated that no foul play is suspected.

As previously reported, an extensive search has been underway since Monday when Jackson’s abandoned vehicle was found in a field adjacent to Trusty Cemetery on Trusty Cemetery Road. Jackson was last seen near his home in Alabama on Sunday, April 7th, and was listed as a missing person with the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department. The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office and Caldwell County Emergency Management conducted a preliminary search of the nearby area on Monday but nothing was found in connection to Jackson.

Sheriff Weedman stated that the search operation was coordinated by Emergency Management, with assistance from personnel from Kentucky, Tennessee, and Missouri. He credited Caldwell County Emergency Management Director Joey McCaslin and Area 1 Emergency Management Coordinator Daniel Newcomb for coordinating the utilization of K-9 units, horses, drones, watercraft, and ground search teams.
