The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a scam about jury duty and missing court appearances.
According to Sheriff Don Weedman, his office has been made aware of scammers calling and stating you need to pay $2,000 if you missed showing up to court. He says this is a scam to get money from you. He stresses that the sheriff’s office does not call people to inform them they missed court.
If you fail to appear for a court date and you have a warrant, Sheriff Weedman says they do not call you to let you know nor do they call and ask you to pay money.
If you are on the current jury list, he says do not fall prey to this scam. The Circuit Court Clerk’s office has also been made aware of this attempt to scam people.
