The Florida man charged with leading multiple police agencies on a pursuit on Wednesday saw additional charges added after an investigation by the Lyon County’s Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Brent White said 27-year-old Jermal Davis of Fort Lauderdale was charged with being a fugitive from another state after an investigation determined Davis had a warrant from Johnson County, Kansas for burglary from a vehicle and failing to appear in court there.
The original complaint involving Davis originated at Lee Jones Park in Eddyville Wednesday morning. White said a woman at the park walking her dog reported a van pulled alongside her parked car and a passenger got out, broke her window, and stole her purse.
A description was given to area police agencies and a state trooper observed the van on I-24 in Lyon County. The vehicle was stopped in Marshall County. White said when police tried to detain the driver, Davis moved to the driver’s seat and drove off. The driver then ran away.
After a lengthy pursuit that ended in Trigg County, Davis was arrested and White said evidence tying the suspects to the theft was found in the vehicle.
White said later Wednesday night, first responders answered a 911 call of a person on the side of I-24 in Lyon County near the Cumberland River bridge. The person was identified as 34-year-old Javon Moss of Fort Lauderdale and was arrested.
Both were charged by the sheriff’s office with complicity to third-degree burglary; first-degree criminal mischief; theft over $500, and possession of burglary tools. State police handled the pursuit-related charges.
Davis and Moss were lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center.
