Vickie Hughes Ward, age 72 of Princeton, passed away on May 14, 2024, at Baptist Health of Paducah. Born on July 29, 1951, in Caldwell County, Vickie’s life was a testament to her love and dedication to her community and family.

Vickie was a proud graduate of the Caldwell County High School class of ’69, where she formed lifelong friendships. Her career was marked by her love for people and passion for working with the public. She served many roles such as the advertisement director for the Times Leader Newspaper, finance department for the Honda of Princeton and Cash Express as well as greeting people at Hancocks grocery store, amongst various other careers in Caldwell County. Vickie’s passion for her community was further evident during her tenure as the first female Princeton City Mayor from 2003 to 2006, a period during which she dedicated herself to the betterment of her hometown. She was a member of Ogden Memorial United Methodist Church.

Vickie had a passion for crafting and gardening and loved hosting family dinners. She took great pride in her role as a grandmother, cherishing every moment spent with her grandchildren and celebrating the arrival of her two great-granddaughters.

We celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the extraordinary life she led.

Vickie’s legacy is carried on by her husband of twelve years, Brian Ward of Princeton; her loving daughters, Holly (Ben) VanHooser and Brandy (Brandon) Knoth, both of Princeton; and her brother, Bill (Glenda) Ladd, also of Princeton. She was the adored grandmother to Drake (Lorielle) VanHooser, Hunter (Macy) VanHooser, Tate VanHooser, Campbell Knoth, Claire Knoth, and Caylor Knoth, and the proud great-grandmother to Lowe and Lila VanHooser. Her warmth and guidance will also be missed by her several nieces and nephews.

Vickie was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Ladd and Louise Milton Ladd; her sister, Bobbie Hunsaker; and her brother, Charles Ladd. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she carried their memories with her throughout her life.
