A state of emergency has been declared in Lyon County after a confirmed tornado caused significant damage Sunday night.
Lyon County Sheriff Brent White says they are fortunate there were no fatalities and minor injuries when a tornado moved through the county around 8:00. Unfortunately, he says there was a lot of damage and Judge-Executive Jaime Smith declared a state of emergency Monday afternoon.
According to Sheriff White, emergency management is coordinating efforts of damage assessments.
click to download audioIn addition, he said the Lyon County Road Department is working diligently working to open roads that were only partially opened on Sunday.
He said a storm damage assessment team from the National Weather Service was in Lyon County on Monday.

click to download audioSheriff White is asking people to stay out of the areas impacted by the tornado while road crews continue to work to clear debris and utility crews work to restore power.
