Caldwell County Declares State of Emergency, Announces Tornado-Related Info

Caldwell County Judge-Executive Kota Young officially declared a State of Emergency and announced an informational meeting and other important information for those impacted by Sunday’s storms during the fiscal court meeting Tuesday morning.

Magistrates unanimously approved a motion declaring a state of emergency for the May 26, 2024, tornado.

click to download audioJudge Young also announced there will be an informal meeting from 6:00 to 8:00 Wednesday evening at Princeton City Hall for individuals impacted by Sunday’s tornado.

click to download audioHe also provided information about cleanup for those in the path of the tornado.

In addition, he gave out the telephone numbers for volunteers and a direct number to call for the individuals impacted by the tornado.

click to download audioAs far as donations, Young said they continue to have an excellent partnership with the Community Foundation of West Kentucky. He said there is now a dedicated fund for those who want to make donations to those impacted by the tornado.

According to Young, they are continuing to work with the state to secure burn sites to be able to reduce the vegetated debris that will be collected from the tornado. The first burn site was approved Tuesday afternoon.

Young said the burn site is for any individual who has storm damage from the straight-line winds or the tornado on Sunday.

And he said rubberneckers driving through the impacted areas will be asked to leave.

click to download audioIn new business, magistrates approved a $500,000 budget amendment for the emergency related to the tornado; an emergency procurement contract;, advertising for debris removal; and, renewing a contract with ER Assist.

Magistrates also approved the appointments of Casey Baker, Casey Newsom and Geneva Malone to the County Review Board with their term to begin June 1st. Baker and Newsom will serve a two-year term and Malone, the County-at-Large representative, will serve a one-year term.

The Fiscal Court also unanimously approved the cancellation of the Bond Anticipation Note from the December 10, 2021 tornado.
