Attorneys in the double-murder case of Bobby Spikes are still waiting for DNA lab results and will be seeking additional phone records.
The parties convened Monday morning in Christian County Circuit Court before Senior Judge John Atkins, who signed off on a pair of motions seeking additional records.
Special prosecutor Blake Chambers said DNA evidence he sent to the state police testing lab has not produced a conclusion.
click to download audioJudge Atkins made a recommendation to Chambers and defense attorney Eric Bearden that perhaps “riding shotgun” with the lab technicians when the testing is done could allow them to see the results in person and not wait for a report to be written and sent to them.

click to download audioSpikes is charged with two counts of murder, two counts of robbery, and single counts of tampering with physical evidence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and kidnapping resulting in death.
He has been in the Christian County Jail for over two years on charges of murdering Stanley Bussell at the home of Candace Marcel in December 2021. Marcel’s body was found in a car in eastern Trigg County later that day. Police said both victims had been shot. A superseding indictment handed down in Christian County in February charged Spikes with the death of Marcel, who police said was his girlfriend.
Bearden told the court that he wants to see Spikes’ November 4 trial date continue as planned.
