The Pennyrile Regional Energy Agency (PREA) is continuing its efforts to construct a 53-mile natural gas pipeline that will help residents and businesses in Lyon, Caldwell, Trigg, Christian, and Todd counties.
During a presentation to the Elkton Rotary Club last week – PREA Board Chair Eston Glover discussed the latest developments in the project.
Glover said most right-of-way purchases have gone smoothly along Interstate 24, where the pipeline is proposed. Some have entered the eminent domain phase.
The pipeline has a tight deadline so that it can provide natural gas to the third phase of the Novelis project by January 2026.
As more cities and Fort Campbell come forward, increasing the demand for natural gas, Glover added the size of the pipeline could change.
In addition to Glover, the PREA board is comprised of Gary Traughber (Vice-Chair) Johnny Knuckles (Secretary), Jon Stahl (Treasurer), Todd Mansfield (Ex-Officio), Kelli Penick, Bill Jobe, and Deana Power. Todd County Attorney Jeff Traughber and McGhee Engineering are serving as contractors for the project.
PREA will have one employee later this year, Laura Brock. Brock will serve as the Executive Administrator effective Monday, September 9th. She currently serves as the City Clerk for Elkton, her last day with the city is August 30th.
The pipeline will begin near Lamasco – where Caldwell, Lyon, and Trigg counties intersect, and will connect to an already existing ANR pipeline.
