The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help to combat sign thefts.

According to Sheriff White, his office received reports of multiple county road signs that were stolen off Travis Road, along with someone stealing the KY State Penitentiary sign at the intersection of KY 93 South and KY 730 West. He said these reports follow multiple incidents of county road sign thefts off of KY 93 South in March of this year.

Sheriff White stated in a release that “beyond the added cost to taxpayers for the loss of these signs, such as a stop sign, warning sign, or even a county road sign, their absence can cause serious physical injury and even death in a collision.” He want on to say, “the seconds and minutes lost by first responders trying to locate certain roads and/or going into an intersection without appropriate warnings can have dire consequences.” Sherrif White said his office will work the county and commonwealth attorneys “to prosecute whoever is committing these senseless thefts.”

If anyone has information concerning the identity of these offenders or the location of these stolen road signs, call the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office at 270-388-2311.
