Marlene B. Coursey, age 91, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2024, at her home in Fredonia, KY. Born on September 16, 1932, in Farmersville, KY, Marlene’s life was a testament to her unwavering commitment to her family, education, and community.
Marlene is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, William L. Coursey; one daughter, Lee Anne Feldhaus of Maysville, KY; one son, William “Bear” (Julie) Coursey of Madisonville; four grandchildren, Chad Vinson, Liam Coursey, Quinn Coursey, and Ashlee Hylsky and three great-grandchildren, Addi Vinson, Gavin Vinson, and Hudson Hylsky. Her memory will also be treasured by several nieces, nephews, and countless friends who were touched by her kindness.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Allie Dillbeck Brown, her sister, Sue Watson, her brother, Bob Brown and one son in law, Allen Feldhaus. Her life was marked by a passion for education, having served as a teacher in Caldwell County for over 30 years. Her influence extended beyond the classroom as she was a dedicated Sunday School Teacher at the First Baptist Church of Fredonia for over 60 years and served on the Caldwell County School board for 12 years.
A founding member of the Fredonia Riding Club, Marlene’s love for horses was evident when she became the world champion of the pleasure walking class at the Celebration in Shelbyville, TN. Her love for animals was not just limited to horses; she was also a devoted dog lover. In retirement, Marlene and her husband opened a greenhouse and operated it for 25 years.
Marlene B. Coursey will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her life was a beautiful example of service, love, and dedication.
Visitation will be held Wednesday June 26, 2024, at First Baptist Church Fredonia from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Memorial service for Marlene B. Coursey will be Thursday, June 27, 2024, at First Baptist Church Fredonia at 11:00 am with Bro. Presley Lamb officiating.
