Caldwell County Animal Control Officer Kevin Lane is advising residents the bear that has been roaming western Kentucky has been spotted in Caldwell County.
According to Lane, the bear was last seen on Farmersville Road. He said a local retired veterinarian, Dr. Black, confirmed the bear was on his property around 7:30 Sunday evening. He also said Caldwell County Sheriff’s deputies were in the area following the sighting.
If you see the bear, Lane says do not approach it. He also says residents should secure their garbage cans and protect their pets inside.
Lane says the bear is just moving through and will be out of the county soon. He mentioned there were reports of the bear in the Beulah/Dawson Springs area Sunday morning.
There have been reports of a bear being spotted in Daviess and Hopkins counties over the last week.
This isn’t the first time a bear has been seen in Caldwell County. In July 2021, an American Black Bear was spotted in the area of Sugar Creek Church Road. At that time, Biologist John Hast, a bear program coordinator for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, told the News Edge a bear can travel around 30 miles a day and would more than likely head home in the coming weeks.
