City Council Approves Salary Adjustments for Water Commission and School Resource Officer

The Princeton City Council at Monday night’s meeting passed a resolution to adjust the salaries for members of the Princeton Water & Wastewater Commission, as well as the hourly rate for a Rank 1 School Resource Officer.

City Attorney Todd Wetzel explained that the resolution would raise the commission members’ salaries by $50 monthly from their current amount.

In other new business, Councilwoman Sheila Gates sponsored the first reading of an ordinance to amend the Fiscal Year 2024 budget, as presented by City Attorney Todd Wetzel, and Councilwoman Pat George sponsored the first reading of an ordinance to adjust the hourly rate for a Rank 1 School Resource Officer 1 from $30.00 to $29.03.

Mayor Brock Thomas also made two appointments and two reappointments to various boards and commissions, all unanimously approved by the council. The new appointments included Tim Sims to the Dotson Park Board, with a term set to expire on May 1, 2028, and Kari Gibson to the Princeton Tourism Commission, with a term set to expire on June 25, 2027.

The reappointments included Sherman Chaudoin to the Princeton Housing Authority Board, with a term set to on April 1, 2028, and Heather Riley as the Chamber of Commerce representative to the Princeton Tourism Commission, with a term set to expire on June 25, 2026.

During the mayor’s comments, Thomas provided an update on the tornado debris removal for the May 2024 tornado.

click to download audioAs of June 30, ER Assist, the monitoring firm for Looks Great Services, reported 59 total vegetative loads had been removed for a total of just over 2,805 cubic yards of debris.

During the meeting, the City Council also heard a report from Princeton Water & Wastewater Superintendent James Noel, as well as an update from Councilman Jim Joiner regarding the Princeton-Caldwell County Airport Board.
