Former United States President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for the November General Election, was the target of an assassination attempt Saturday afternoon at a rally in Pennsylvania.
Your News Edge spoke with Tyler Friel, News Director of WBUT Radio in Butler, Pennsylvania, who was at the location where the event occurred. Friel said people began arriving at the Butler Farm Show Grounds around 8:00 AM when the gates opened.
Friel added his community of over 13,000 residents does not play host to many presidential candidates.
Friel said Secret Service officials began leading attendees out of the immediate area about 10-20 minutes after the shooting. The grounds around the rally space were cleared completely about 30 minutes after the incident.
Trump confirmed via a statement on his Truth Social platform that he was “shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of (his) right ear.” He also praised the United States Secret Service and the local law enforcement agencies for the rapid response afterward.
Media reports said one bystander was killed, and the U.S. Secret Service said the shooter was “neutralized and is deceased.”
President Joe Biden said in a statement Saturday night that he was grateful to hear that former President Trump was safe and doing well. He added he and Dr. Jill Biden were praying for him, his family, and those at the rally. He said that everyone must come together to condemn such violence.
