Caldwell ACO Shares Info About Shelter and ‘Christmas in July’ with Rotarians

On Tuesday, staff from the Caldwell County Animal Shelter shared with the Princeton Rotary Club their plans to spread holiday cheer with a “Christmas in July” celebration at the shelter, featuring reduced adoption fees and special treats for the dogs.

Director and Animal Control Officer Kevin Lane, along with Miranda Johntry from the animal shelter, were the guest speakers at the Princeton Rotary Club meeting on Tuesday. Johntry said they are hosting a “12 Days of Christmas” event for the dogs at the shelter and taking donations for some special treats for the dogs on the last day which is July 31st.

click to download audioLane, who was hired by the Caldwell County Fiscal Court as the new Animal Control Officer in February, also shared indepth information about the shelter with Rotarians. He noted that while the state requires each county to have an animal control officer, it does not mandate the provision of an animal shelter. In Caldwell County, the animal shelter is funded by the Fiscal Court.

click to download audioFurthermore, he added that the shelter would not be what it is today without the support of the community.

click to download audioLane also mentioned that he is encouraging community members to make memorial contributions to the shelter in honor of a deceased family member.

According to Lane, one of their current projects involves pouring concrete for the outside kennels to improve cleanliness and sanitation, which had to be delayed when they took in 22 dogs.

click to download audioHe mentioned that the concrete is being provided at almost no cost to taxpayers, thanks to generous donations in the amount of $3,000 for the $7,000 project.

The animal shelter has a maximum capacity of 18 but is currently housing 34 dogs. Lane emphasized that the Caldwell County Animal Shelter is a no-kill facility.
