Health First Community Health is celebrating National Health Center Week 2024 this week. In honor of the week, Health First Community Health in Princeton will celebrate its patients with a free treat and door prizes on Tuesday.

According to a release from Marketing and Outreach Director Jenna Jerger, the annual event highlights the essential role Community Health Centers play in improving public health and advancing health equity. She notes health centers represent the nation’s largest primary care network, serving 31.5 million patients nationwide.

This year’s National Health Center Week celebration, launched by the National Association of Community Health Centers, focuses on “Power Communities Through Caring Connections” through a host of scheduled events that include resource fairs, back-to-school drives, health screenings, and visits to health centers by local, state and national leaders.

In honor of the week, Health First Community Health will host a patient appreciation day at each of its eight locations. In Princeton, patient appreciation day will be held on Tuesday from noon until 2 PM, with free ice cream to the community while supplies last and participants may register to win a variety of door prizes.

Health centers aim to provide high-quality, affordable care to all, regardless of payment ability or insurance. With nearly 300,000 dedicated professionals, they tackle major public health issues, prevent illness, and address social factors like climate change, homelessness, substance use, food insecurity, and behavioral health.

According to officials with Health First Community Health, nearly 1,500 health centers are the health care home to:

· One in 5 uninsured people

· One in 3 people living in poverty

· One in 7 rural residents

· Nearly 9 million children

· 400,000 veterans
