William Franklin, 91, of Louisville

William E. Franklin, age 91, of Louisville, KY, and formerly of Princeton, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at Nortons Audubon Hospital in Louisville.

William was born on June 21, 1933 in Golden Pond, KY to the late Noah Franklin and Edith Sowell Poindexter. William served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, being stationed in Berlin, Germany, Korea, and Okinawa, Japan. After a successful career, William retired as a supervisor from the Kentucky State Penitentiary. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most recently, William took up coin collecting and enjoyed searching out new coins for his collection. Above all, family was most important to William. He cherished time spent with his family and will be missed by all. William was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Princeton.

Survivors include his son, Paul (Tina) Franklin, of Louisville, KY; two daughters, Deborah Ann Franklin, of Okinawa, Japan and Yoshko of Tokyo, Japan; step-son, Perry (Nancy) Wright; two step-daughters, Linda Leeper, of Newport Richie, FL and Karen (Stan) Gardner, of Princeton; sister Linda (Marvin) Toomer of Hopkinsville, KY; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, William is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wanetta Ruth Gibson Franklin; stepson, James Wright; two sisters, Wanda Orange and Dorothy Ann Glass.

Visitation for William Franklin will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Morgan’s Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
