Lee R. Woolsey, age 80, of Dawson Springs passed away peacefully on August 18, 2024, in Marion, Kentucky. Born on February 18, 1944, in Providence, Kentucky, Lee left an indelible mark on those who knew him throughout his life. Lee worked as a coal miner and was of the Baptist faith.
A proud veteran, Lee served honorably in the United States Navy aboard the USS Thuban, earning his discharge in 1965. His commitment to service was matched by his dedication to sport, as he became a three-time Archery State Champion, demonstrating both skill and perseverance.
Lee’s interests extended beyond the realm of archery. He found joy in playing the banjo, even having the privilege of play with “Turtleman,” attending flea markets, fishing in tranquil waters, and creating exquisite hand-sewn quilts. His diverse hobbies reflected his creative spirit and love for connecting with others.
Lee is survived by his sons, Lee Roy Woolsey (Lynne) of Knoxville, TN; Billy Lee Woolsey (Dana) of Marion, KY; Bobby Lee Woolsey (Martha) of Dawson Springs; and his daughter Melinda Ezell (Jason) of Princeton. He is also survived by his brothers, Jimmy Wayne Woolsey (Phyllis) of Madisonville, and Billy Joe Woolsey (Donna) of Madisonville; twenty-one grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bobbie Ann Woolsey; his son Ricky Woolsey; his parents Walter & Sadie Woolsey; and his brothers Robert Woolsey and Walter “Junior” Woolsey.
As his family reflects on his life, they remember a man of strength, kindness, and creativity. Lee R. Woolsey’s impact on his family and community will forever be cherished, and his memory will continue to inspire those who knew him.
