A Princeton woman was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and public intoxication after police say she boarded a school bus on Tuesday morning.
Assistant Police Chief Shane Allison reported that around 6:40 a.m., officers responded to the 600 block of Fairview Church Road for an intoxicated female who entered the bus through the back door.
According to police, they were informed by the bus driver that a woman, later identified as 45-year-old Amanda Cansler, had attempted to enter the bus through the loading door but was unsuccessful. According to the bus driver, as he was driving away Cansler managed to board the bus through the back door. Police stated that the bus driver radioed for assistance, stopped the bus, and positioned himself between Cansler and the students on board, as she was acting strangely and talking nonsense. Authorities also noted that Cansler was seen with a folding knife, which she had taken out while on the bus. After a few minutes, Cansler exited the bus through the back door.
Officers arrived at the scene and found Cansler in the woods hiding in a ditch. They determined that she was allegedly under the influence of intoxicating substances.
Cansler was taken into custody and charged with public intoxication excluding alcohol, disorderly conduct, menacing, and unlawful possession of a weapon on school property. She was lodged in the Caldwell County Jail.
