Authorities report that three officers, including Eddyville’s police chief, were administered Narcan last week after exhibiting overdose symptoms following an arrest in Lyon County.

According to Lyon County Sheriff Brent White, Deputy Josh Travis and Eddyville Police Chief Jordan Parrish were called to the Fivestar convenience store in Eddyville for an intoxicated person complaint around 3:00 Tuesday afternoon, August 20. Upon arrival, he said they made contact with 50-year old Mary Gammon of Evansville, Indiana who was “extremely under the influence” and was arrested for DUI. While transporting Gammon to the Lyon County Jailer’s Office, he said Chief Parrish began feeling ill.

Once at the Jailer’s office, Sheriff White reported Chief Parrish’s symptoms continued to deteriorate to the point a detective with Kentucky State Police called for an ambulance. Upon arrival, EMS personnel believed three officers, including Parrish, Deputy Travis, and the state police detective had been exposed to an unknown opioid-type substance that was causing symptoms of overdose. Each of the officers was administered Narcan, and all three later sought treatment at a local hospital where they were released that evening.

Gammon was reportedly decontaminated and later lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center.
