Princeton City Council Appoints New Tourism Director, Discusses Playground Plans

The Princeton City Council approved the appointment of a city employee as the new head of the Tourism Commission at Tuesday night’s meeting and received an update on a planned playground at the City-County Park.

City Clerk Julie Poole stated that Deputy City Clerk Jenny Clark has been acting as the Tourism Commission director while serving on the board. However, the Commission recently decided they need an official director. Poole then outlined the contract agreement designating Deputy City Clerk Laci Harper to the role.

Along with all the renovations at the City-County Park, Harper provided the Council with an update regarding a planned playground including the purchase of equipment from GameTime, based in Harrison, Ohio, for nearly $70,000, which includes a company discount for approximately $55,000.

Harper mentioned that the swing set would include two handicapped-accessible swings, two to three toddler swings, and two swings for older children and adults.

Mayor Brock Thomas shared his vision for the City-County Park as a place for families to enjoy.

click to download audioHe directed Harper to submit all the paperwork to City Attorney Todd Wetzel for review before proceeding with the proposed playground.

In other business, the Council unanimously approved Mayor Brock Thomas’s request to accept bids for kits to construct four 10×20 dugouts at the City-County Park.

In unfinished business, the council members approved the 2024 tax rates on the second reading, setting both the real property and personal property tax rates at 16.3 cents per $100 of assessed value.
