As black bears seem to make Caldwell County and the surrounding area part of their annual “must see” regions and vacation destinations, social media has become filled with local sightings. On Friday morning, 9/20/24, local Caldwell County resident Lindsey Patterson says she spotted the visiting bear in the Dripping Springs Road area. Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Bear Program Coordinator, John Hast, joined Tess on WPKY’s “Coffee Talk” this week, to talk about why they seem to have chosen Western Kentucky, where are they headed and if this is our new normal. Hast tells us about Kentucky’s healthy black bear population, what has caused the up-tick in visits and discusses the likelihood of black bears eventually living year round. Listen to the full visit below.
