The Caldwell County FFA Farm to Plate program was held last week, one day on the farm and one day in the classroom. Both days give 3rd graders an experience in learning where their food comes from and how it is produced and processed.
The classroom section of the annual event allows FFA students and other experts to come to the school and discuss agriculture issues that are important to the farmers and keep them safe. The students are instructed in different types of soils and how they are used for food production, they are informed and surprised by how soybeans are used in so many ways other than food, they can learn about tractors and race pedal tractors and most importantly how important it is to know how to use tractors and other farm equipment safely.
FFA President Daniel Laurent feels this program is a great way to educate young students about the agriculture industry.
