At this week’s Princeton Rotary Club meeting, Matt Hughes, Public Information Officer for District 2 discussed his career and role in communicating the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s efforts to the public.
Hughes shared with Rotarians that he was born in Providence and lives in Madisonville. He previously worked in journalism for nearly 15 years before joining the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet earlier this year. He mentioned that District 2 includes eleven counties.

click to download audioHughes explained that a lot of the employees are engineers, and his role as a Public Information Officer is to communicate their work to the public, just as his title suggests.
He acknowledged that some might find the job boring, but he loves its unpredictability. For instance, he once received a call at 4 AM about a semi-truck carrying molten aluminum overturning on Interstate 69 near Owensboro.

Hughes also mentioned that 20 state transportation employees are assisting in North Carolina, working to clear roads and reach areas that are still inaccessible.
