Restoration Underway at Caldwell County Courthouse Amid Tree Concerns

If you’ve recently driven through downtown Princeton, you’ve likely seen the yellow tape and heavy equipment at the Caldwell County Courthouse, signaling the restoration project is underway.

During Tuesday’s Fiscal Court meeting, John H. Stevens from Tremco Construction Products Group updated attendees on the project’s progress, noting that work began on the west side of the Courthouse with much of it already completed and ongoing as of Tuesday.

click to download audioHe noted that the roofing materials arrived on Tuesday and acknowledged a few safety concerns that have been addressed along with some noise complaints, but overall, he stated everything is progressing smoothly.

Stevens also reported that the project is on schedule, but mentioned that facade work on the east side of the Courthouse is hindered by the trees. Simms added that trimming is necessary to preserve the building’s integrity, and the tree in front of the Courthouse should be removed.

Judge Young, District 2 Magistrate Jeff Boone, and Simms all concurred that the tree in front of the Courthouse should be replaced.

click to download audioStevens stated that the initial estimate he received covered only tree trimming, but he will also obtain a quote for tree removal.

With the roofing insulation arriving on Tuesday and the remaining materials expected by the end of the week, Stevens mentioned they aim to begin work on it next week and start on the west wing either next week or the following week.

Boone and Simms expressed their satisfaction with the progress of the work so far.
