Ronald Lynn Tolbert, born on August 27, 1941, in Peoria, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his residence on November 7, 2024. A proud Kentucky Colonel, Ronald spent most of his professional life in the insurance industry, where he was known for his integrity and dedication to his work. He was a member at the First Baptist Church in Benton, KY.
Ron graduated from Benton High School in Benton, Kentucky, where he distinguished himself as an outstanding baseball player. He furthered his education by earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Murray State University. Throughout his life, Ron exhibited a warmth and openness that endeared him to many; he never met a stranger.
Ron was not only passionate about his career, but he also devoted his time to community engagement. He served as a former member of the Board of Directors for the Dawson Springs Community Center and held the roles of officer and coach for the Dawson Springs Youth Sports League, contributing significantly to the development of youth sports in his community.
Family was at the heart of Ron’s life. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Marvalyn Menser Tolbert, residing in Dawson Springs, KY. He leaves behind two sons and daughters-in-law, Todd and Kit Tolbert, and Brad and Michele Tolbert, both of Bowling Green, KY. His granddaughter, Taylor Tolbert, brought immense joy to his life, particularly as he cherished watching her play basketball. Additionally, Ron held a special bond with his aunt, June Leneave of Terre Haute, IN.
Throughout his life, Ron demonstrated a profound love for animals, rescuing many throughout the years. He was an avid fisherman and had a particular passion for St. Louis Cardinals baseball, often sharing these interests with his loved ones.
Ron did face health challenges in his later years, and his family expresses deep gratitude for the support and prayers offered by friends and the community during this time. They extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Hack, Dr. Modi, Dale Menser and Hosperus Health for the exceptional care provided to Ron and their family.
Ronald Lynn Tolbert will be remembered for his kind spirit, unwavering love for his family, and his dedication to his community. He is preceded in death by his parents, Neal and Elizabeth Gatlin Tolbert, and his brother, Michael Tolbert.
Visitation for Ron Tolbert will be on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from 12:00 P.M. until the 2:00 P.M. funeral hour at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs, KY with Elder Jeff Winfrey officiating. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery in Dawson Springs, KY.
Pallbearers will be: Todd Tolbert, Chris Menser, Brad Tolbert, Bo Yarbrough, Kem Braden and Matthew Tolbert. Kelly Menser has been named as the Honorary Pallbearer.
