Local Pastors Attend Kentucky Baptist Convention’s 187th Annual Meeting

The 187th annual meeting of the Kentucky Baptist Convention was held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Paducah.

This long-standing gathering of Southern Baptists from across the State of Kentucky is held in different locations across the State each year. There is also a Pastor’s Conference that is held the day before the actual convention. The day-long meeting includes reports from all of the Baptist programs and activities, speakers bringing inspirational messages, special music, a lot of fellowship plus conducting the business of the Convention. There were close to 1000 messengers registered for the meeting with each member church of the convention allowed to send messengers to participate in the activities and vote on all business and elections.

There were a couple of things that were of special interest to the local community. The second vice president of the Convention was former local resident Chance McConnell who had several responsibilities during the Convention. McConnell grew up in Princeton and graduated from the local high school. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church before surrendering to the ministry and now pastors First Baptist Church in Taylorsville, Kentucky.

Another point of interest was a report from the Crossing Ministry. Many young people from our area attend Crossing camping sessions each summer. They reported that over 23,000 students attended the Crossing camps this year which resulted in over 700 salvations during the summer.

Mike Boyd is the pastor of Mt. Zion Church and was glad the convention was close to home this year.
