The National Weather Service in Paducah is continuing to monitor the increasing potential for a winter storm that would impact the region this weekend.
In an early Thursday update, the NWS said this is considered a significant winter storm with mixed precipitation types Saturday night into Monday. They added that concern for travel impacts continues to increase.
There is still a lot of uncertainty concerning precipitation types and timing, how much precipitation each area could get, and how severe the travel impacts could be. The latest weather models show the greatest impacts could be generally along and north of the Interstate 69 and U.S. 62 corridors, where the latest guidance is calling for a wintry mix of sleet, snow, and freezing rain, and travel impacts are likely.
For areas to the south, the latest guidance is calling for the potential of rain and freezing rain, with travel impacts possible.
