As a winter storm impacts the area, Caldwell County Emergency Management Director Joey McCaslin provided an update on the county’s conditions as of mid-afternoon Friday.
As of 2:00 Friday afternoon, McCaslin reported uncertainty about the exact snowfall in the county, estimating up to 2 inches in some areas. He also noted that there had been two non-injury accidents as of mid-afternoon.

Regarding road conditions, McCaslin recommends that everyone stay home if possible. However, if you must go out, he advises drivers to use caution.
click to download audioDrivers on secondary roads should exercise extreme caution, as most of these roads remain snow-covered and slippery. Additional snowfall is expected Friday afternoon, potentially causing the previously clear roads to deteriorate and become hazardous.
He mentioned that there is a possibility of some roads refreezing overnight.
He also noted that, as of mid-afternoon, there have been no reported power outages in the city or county. McCaslin said they remain hopeful that the area can endure the winter storm without any winds taking down power lines.
McCaslin encourages everyone to stay safe and says that if you have any requests for emergency management, you should call Dispatch at 911. He says Dispatch will relay the message to emergency management, and efforts will be made to address the situation.
