Mary Thurby Jones, age 94, of Lyon County, formerly of Henderson, KY and South Indianapolis, IN, passed away January 10, 2025, at Anna Mae Owen Hospice House in Murray, KY.
Mary was born December 31, 1930, to the late Henry and Nellie Willingham Thurby. She was a devoted member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she enjoyed the company and memorable times shared with her church family. During her time living in Indiana, she enjoyed her farm and all its endeavors. Mary worked for Teledyne in Indianapolis where she was a secretary and became a controller. She eventually moved to the lake where she enjoyed fishing. Mary never had children of her own but she had many children who called her Granny Mary. She had a great love for her cat, Molly, whom she adored.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews; friends at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, whom she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy D. Jones; sisters, Virginia Cooper, Ruby Nunn, Grace Todd, Joyce Pearcy, Evelyn Murphy, Stella Gish and Frances Miller; brothers, Charles Thurby, Frank Thurby, Houston Thurby, James Thurby and John Thurby.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Lakeland Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 18, 202,5 at Lakeland Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Boyd and Bro. Aaron Brown is officiating.
Burial in Roselawn Cemetery in Henderson, KY will be held at a later date.
