Verna Kinnis, 91, of Lyon County

Verna Mae Kinnis, age 91, passed away peacefully at Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky. Verna was born to the late, Vernon T. McClure and Odie Lorena Owen. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Kelly Odell McKinney, and her second husband, Frank Edward Kinnis.

Verna is survived by her daughter, Saburina Hodge and husband, Morris of Eddyville; her son, Demetrius Kinnis and wife, Leigh Ann of Marshall County and her daughter, Mariah Wyatt . She leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Nathan Hodge and wife, Kindra, and their daughter, Maddie Hodge of Brighton, Michigan, and McKinzey Brazell and husband, Pastor Jonathan Brazell, along with their children Annie, Lola, and Everett of Corpus Christi, Texas. Verna is also survived by her beloved sister, Dale Beverly and her husband, Pastor Don Beverly of Eddyville; and brother, Billy Owen of Beaver Dam, Kentucky.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James, Troy, Danny, and Oliver McClure; and sister, Dean Wilson.

Verna’s greatest love in life was her faith in Jesus Christ. She was an active member of Seven Springs Baptist Church near Dycusburg, Kentucky, for over 30 years, where her church family brought her immense joy. Later, she built her home in Eddyville and moved her membership to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church near Eddy Creek. There, she served faithfully as the church pianist until she could no longer drive. Verna’s church family and their love enriched her life beyond measure.

Funeral services will be held at Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville, Kentucky, on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until service time. Pastor Don Beverly and Pastor Jonathan Brazell will lead this celebration of her life. Verna had one special request for her funeral: that the plan of salvation be shared so that everyone could come to know the Jesus she loved so deeply.

We are comforted knowing Verna is now in the presence of the Lord. Her unwavering faith and love

for her Savior remain an inspiration to all who loved and knew her.
