Caldwell County to Host Largest-Ever Winterfest Tournament for Special Olympics

This coming Saturday is a major day for the Caldwell County Special Olympics as well as athletes from the surrounding communities as Caldwell hosts the annual Winterfest Basketball Tournament.

Members of the local teams look forward to this tournament each year giving them the opportunity to showcase their skills and the abilities of the cheerleaders to present their cheers to the public and other teams. Vickie Purcell serves as the coordinator of the Caldwell County Special Olympics and shared about the upcoming tournament.

Purcell encourages members of the community to come out and watch the teams play. She said the athletes really appreciate seeing local people at their games.

click to download audioPurcell added there were only two tournaments in the area and this one was important because you had to play a required number of games to qualify for the regional tournament.
