For many people, the Tuesday night match-up of Caldwell County versus Lyon County basketball felt like the old times of the excitement of the former 5th District rivals that always brought huge crowds and high expectations.
The game being played in the smaller Dawson Springs gym added to the spectators being closer to the action of the game, players and cheerleaders. It also brought together a gym full of fans who have been friends for years, played against each other, and see the others on a regular basis from the three different schools of Caldwell, Dawson and Lyon.
As you entered the building one of the first things you saw was the friendly familiar face of Paulette Gray working the entrance gate. Gray is a former longtime educator in Caldwell County who is now employed at Dawson Springs. Gray was excited about the game and shared it brought back many memories of games from the past.
Jimmy Dyer was at the game and is well known to both competing schools as he has taught in both districts. He taught and served as Transportation Director in Caldwell and currently is teaching at Lyon. He was expecting fans to enjoy watching the game..
click to download audioZach Thomas is currently serving as Principal of Lyon County High School but was the Principal at the Caldwell Regional Career Center last year. Being at the Career Center allowed him to get to know several students from Caldwell and Dawson as well as Lyon. He also made many friends while at Caldwell and had talked to some of them about the game and was excited to be at the game.
