Pat George, a member of the MLK Jr. Organizing Committee, mentioned that the traditional essay contest was replaced this year with a poster contest for middle and high school students. The contest’s theme is “Unity Through Diversity,” and the winners will be announced and honored during the program.
This year’s speaker is Aaron Pettus, the pastor of Foston Baptist Church in Hopkinsville. He also holds the position of assistant director of Student Support Services at Hopkinsville Community College, where he has dedicated 27 years of service. Additionally, Pettus is the founder of the New Horizons Empowerment Center, an organization that supports the Less, the Lost, and the Left Out.
George mentioned that there will be special musical performances by the Voices of Trinity from Hopkinsville, as well as special music from some local homeschool students.
Following the program, attendees will be provided with a sack lunch.

George announced Thursday evening that the first-ever Unity Walk, scheduled before the program, has been canceled due to the weather forecast for Monday.
